Social media and group chats are a really exciting and fun way to connect with people. Now on the internet we can make friends and find relationships at the click of a button. However, you should always be mindful about who you are talking to, and should try to watch out for any red flags.

Tell someone you trust about the situation. It is a tough thing to go through alone, let alone dangerous. Especially since many of us are at a young age when we go through it, it’s wise to go through it with people older who can handle it with you.

There can be a lot of reasons you don’t want to ask for help, some of which are rooted in fear and shame (we get it).

 

Maybe it’s awkward, or you’re afraid to get in trouble with your parents, or you don’t want your friends to think about you differently.

 

But the best thing you can do in a situation is talk to someone you trust.

When someone comes to you for help, it means they trust you, and we know what type of pressure that creates. 

Here are some tips on how to react to someone asking you for help:

  • Listen to your friend explain the situation without judgment.
  • Reassure your friend that they did the right thing asking for help and that they are not alone.
  • Tell them the other person manipulating or breaking.

Make sure you’re also taking care of yourself if you’re offering a friend help deal with an online crisis. Take care of yourself when taking care of a friend. Know that there is no magic wand for situations like this, and that your support matters the most to your friend.
