BEFORE THE COUNCIL WORK BEGINS
Attendance isn't optional.
Every council member completes NoFiltr’s foundational three-week training before pod work begins. The goal: give young people enough grounding in digital safety, research, and policy to enter conversations with platforms, researchers, and policymakers as informed contributors.
GOOD INPUT STARTS WITH GOOD CONTEXT.
Each week adds a different piece of the picture, giving council members the shared foundation they need before the real council work begins.
Week
01
Program
What does the council do?
Orientation to NoFiltr’s approach, the role council members play, and what meaningful youth participation actually requires.
Week
02
Issue Research
What do youth experience?
A grounding in the research landscape around digital safety: the evidence, emerging issues, gaps, and questions shaping the field.
Week
03
Policy 101
So, where does policy stand?
A working understanding of the policies, debates, institutions, and decision-makers shaping young people’s digital lives.
LEARN FROM THOSE WHO KNOW THE LANDSCAPE
The experts come to them.
During Issue Bootcamp, council members spend time directly with experts from Thorn(opens in new tab), connecting the research they’re studying to the realities of preventing online child sexual exploitation and emerging digital harms.
Digital Safety Certified
91%
PASSED THEIR DIGITAL SAFETY ASSESSMENT ON THE FIRST TRY
Every council member leaves bootcamp having demonstrated their understanding, not merely attended three sessions.
A CERTIFICATE ISN’T THE POINT.
The point is a council member who can sit across from a platform, policymaker, or researcher and hold their own, because they’ve done the reading, asked hard questions, and demonstrated that they understand the landscape.
